Why We Built the EssenTrek Roof Tent
Share
When we first sketched out the idea for EssenTrek, the goal was simple: strip things back. No gimmicks. No fancy branding hiding poor build quality. Just good gear, built to last, that gets you out there without rinsing your bank account.
The roof tent market’s full of brands charging silly money for stuff that looks great on Instagram but doesn’t hold up when the weather turns. We weren’t having that. So we built something better.
Solid. Simple. Sorted.
The Highlander Hard Shell Roof Tent is everything we wanted in a tent but couldn’t find without remortgaging the house.
- Fabric that keeps the cold out and the blackouts in.
- A shell that doesn’t wobble in the wind or leak after a few weekends.
- A mattress you can actually kip on, not just survive a night with.
We tested it on Defenders, Hiluxes, and a couple of hammered old vans. It held up. Rain, wind, dogs, mud—you name it.
Why Less is More
Every zip, pole, hinge and bracket in this tent serves a purpose. If it didn’t need to be there, we didn’t include it. That’s the EssenTrek mindset: cut the crap, keep the adventure.
This isn’t a luxury suite in the woods. It’s your basecamp on a mountain pass. Your dry bed when the moors get wild. Your ticket to freedom when Friday hits and you can’t stare at another screen.
Built for the Real World
Whether you’re spending two weeks crossing Scandinavia or two nights in the Peaks, this tent’s built for the long haul. It’s easy to set up solo, easy to pack down in the rain, and tough enough to throw gear on top of without stressing.
Join the Trek
We didn’t make the Highlander for influencers. We made it for explorers. Dog walkers. Campers. Hikers. People who drive old trucks, sleep under the stars, and don’t mind getting muddy.
This is just the start. We’ve got more kit in the works—all with the same stripped-back, get-it-done attitude.
Follow us, tag us, and most importantly—get out there.
